Record-breaking Hannah
Hannah Miley travelled to the Scottish Championships hoping to confirm that her Olympic preparations are firmly on track.

A record-breaking 200m backstroke on the second day at Glasgow's Tollcross Leisure Centre was the prefect boost. The added bonus was that the swimmer in her wake was the reigning Olympic 400m freestyle champion from France, Laure Manaudau.

Miley, the 18-year-old who is coached by her father, Patrick, at the Garioch Club in Inverurie, claimed the title in a new Scottish record of 2:12.66, which was over two seconds inside the mark set by Lorna Smith four years ago. Manaudau clocked 2:13.11.

"I was in absolute agony, and the end couldn't come quickly enough," said the multi-talented Miley. "This is a great sign for my main events, the 200m and 400m individual medley."

Robbie Renwick, who has qualified for Beijing in the 200m freestyle, showed his form by out gunning fellow-Olympian Andrew Hunter (Stirling) to win the 400m freestyle.

After a spell of training in Italy, the City of Aberdeen 19-year-old won by over six seconds in 3:51.34.
