Olympic champ comes to Glasgow

Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington has confirmed she will be competing in Scotland for a first time since her Beijing success at the Scottish Gas Scottish Open Championships at Tollcross in Glasgow from June 25-28.

In an event that doubles as the second and final trials for next month’s world championships in Rome, the 20-year-old has entered the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle.

“I’ve already qualified for the worlds so I won’t be resting before the Scottish Championships,” said Rebecca. “But I’m really looking forward to my trip to Glasgow. I’ve competed in Scotland a few times before, but this is the first time since the Olympics.”

Rebecca admits she has lived in a whirlwind at time since she won the 400m and 800m (in a world record time) in China ten months ago.

For instance, just last week she paid a visit to Buckingham Palace to receive her OBE from the Queen. “It was brilliant,” was her reaction.

In Glasgow, Hannah Miley and Kris Gilchrist – the two Scots already in the world team – will be the leading home competitors.
