No medals - but loads of promise

It was disappointing that none of Scotland's ten swimmers managed a medal in Beijing. Hopes were high, but it was not to be.

However, Hannah Miley, Kris Gilchrist, Robbie Renwick and Andy Hunter are youngsters who proved they are on the trail for London 2012.

Caitlin McClatchey and Kirsty Balfour are two more experienced swimmers who have already been on world podiums, and they are both young enough to be around in four years' time.

Becky Adlington gave British swimming a huge boost with her golden double in the 400m and 800m freestyle - the 19-year-old lifted the sport to new heights.

There were also a barrow load of finalist and new records - so there is already every prospect that new peaks will be reached in the home pool in 2012.

Who knows? By then Michael Phelps might have retired.
