New warm weather facility will help Scottish swimmers
Scotland's swimmers heading for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympics in London are set to benefit from a tie-up between British swimming and the new Blue Water Elite Training Centre in Mallorca.
Based around a 10-lane, outdoor, 50m pool at Colonia de Sant Jordi on the south coast of the island, the deal will see British Swimming become a priority client in terms of warm weather training camps.
The BEST Centre, founded by former Olympic swimmers, will be available for the national team to engage in intensive training and will be a huge opportunity for the swimmers to escape the worst of the winter weather.
Training groups will be able to use the new pool, gym, dry land area, meeting room and changing facilities and there will also be a chance for open water swimmers to perfect their skills off the near-by coast.
The centre, which has preferred accommodation close by, will be officially opened next spring.
