Greenwood recruited for elite team at Stirling
The highly-regarded Rob Greenwood has been appointed assistant coach at the new British-backed Stirling International Training Centre.
The announcement follows a comprehensive recruitment process for British Swimming in implementing its strategy of creating a network of ITCs. Stirling is the only one in Scotland.
Greenwood arrives in Stirling after years as Head Coach of Gallica Swim Club near Manchester. He has coached several swimmers to European Junior Championship success and was voted British Youth Coach of 2008.
He will be assistant coach to the recently appointed Head Coach at Stirling, Doug Scott.
The implementation and staffing of the ITCs has been a priority of British Swimming under the direction of National Performance Director Michael Scott. It is part of a plan aimed at success at London 2012.
"It's been an extensive and exhaustive process that has led to a mixture of skills and experience being appointed that is capable of driving British Swimming forward over the next four years and beyond," explained Scott.
"This rich mixture of coaching talent, skill base and experience provides a variety of real opportunities for Britain's swimmers, whether sprint to distance, to train at any of the ITCs."
Scott is pleased with the progress in the creation and implementation of the ITC network and is excited at seeing the long-term results that will be gained from providing an enhanced daily training environment for Britain's talent.
"We're now in the process of ensuring everything is in place to complete our goal of providing a world class daily training environment," said Scott.
"This is a very important step and is the foundation by which we believe we will improve performance in the international arena."
