Miley to spearhead Great Britain at European Short Course Championships
Scotland's Hannah Miley is the star name in the 31-strong team named for the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul next month.
The 20-year old Garioch swimmer picked up her only senior honours at the World Short Course Championships in Manchester last year, winning 400m medley silver and 200m medley bronze.
And after missing out on the medals at July's World Championships in Rome, the young Scot is sure to want to put things right in Turkey.
The remainder of the team is a mixed bag of seasoned campaigners and international debutants and British Swimming head coach Dennis Pursley admitted the majority would be treating the meet as a stepping stone to next year's long course season.
"We've got a great mix of swimmers on this team and I think it will be good for the next generation of senior swimmers to be competing with the more experienced members of the team," said Pursley.
"Everyone will use the championships for their own purposes as part of their training plans but for the majority it will be a preparation meet for the main competitions in 2010.
"There will be some swimmers partially rested and they will use the meet to stand up and try to get best times but for many it's part of their long-term training programme looking beyond to next season's long course season."
Other Scots named in the squad include Kris Gilchrist, Andrew Hunter, Lewis Smith and Louise Henley.
