Hannah Miley takes another gold at Leeds Grand Prix
Scotland's Hannah Miley signed off from the British Gas Swimming Grand Prix in Leeds with a second gold medal and a Commonwealth record in the 400m individual medley.
Miley, who finished in fourth place in the same event at the World Championships in Rome this month, swam a well timed race?
Canada’s Tanya Hunks was ahead of Miley at the 200m point but the Garioch 20-year-old chipped away at the lead through her Breaststroke leg and overtook Hunks with 150m to go.
Miley stretched out her lead and with 50m left she looked strong and brought the race home in a time of 4:27.22.
“I went into the final wanting to do a 4:25 but that will now have to wait,” Miley said. “I bettered my PB so I can’t complain too much.
“It is really good to have lowered my Commonwealth record on the back of a long four weeks of training and swimming.
“This morning was a comfortable race but tonight was tougher. I was really going for it because I did want the world record.
“But it is nice to have finished with that swim and to know I am getting closer to the world record. I am going to go back and look at my splits and see what I can improve on.”
