Miley ready for Duel

Fresh from her victory in the 400m individual medley at last week’s European short-course Championships in Turkey, Scot Hannah Miley is ready to help Europe take on the might of America in the British Gas Duel in the Pool in Manchester from 18th-19th December.

The 14-time Olympic gold medallist, Michael Phelps, is in the visiting team, while the home line-up includes another two Scots in Robbie Renwick and Caitlin McClatchey.

The sell-out event provides a unique opportunity for fans to see the USA and European E-stars go head-to-head for supremacy in the pool.

Both teams will include up to 18 men and 18 women with British Swimming, Germany and Italy coming together under the team name of E-Stars for the short course (25m) meet.

British athletes taking part include double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington and World Champions, Gemma Spofforth and Liam Tancock.

The E-stars are led by British Swimming Head Coach Dennis Pursle, who believes the event will offer a great opportunity for athletes and fans alike.

“I expect there’s going to be a high level of competition in the races and it’ll be exciting to see where we stand up head-to-head against the Americans,” he said.

“On paper the USA team are much stronger but we’ve got the best British swimmers competing in the meet and some strong swimmers from Italy and Germany as well.

“It’s a much more fan-friendly format with a straight final featuring the top swimmers in each event adding more focus and intensity to the competition and the athletes will enjoy it.”
