Miley pleased with fourth place

Scotland’s Hannah Miley just missed out on a medal in the 400m individual medley in the World Swimming Championships but maintains she was delighted with her performance.

Miley – who turns 20 on Saturday – was just edged off the podium by Australia’s Olympic champion Stephanie Rice who took bronze by 0.43seconds with Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu taking gold.

But Invervrie’s Miley was thrilled to have closed the gap on the event's big guns with her swim of 4:32.72minute - a vast improvement on her performance in Beijing.

She said: “It was a phenomenal race – it was much better than what I did in Beijing.

“I was very nervous in the heats and my legs were like jelly but I felt so good in the final and the nerves disappeared.

“I am getting closer all the time to the girls winning the medals and that was 100per cent better than Beijing.”
