Miley no longer fears world stars

Hannah Miley insists her days of fearing her peers are long gone as she prepares for the biggest test of her fledgling career at the World Swimming Championships in Rome.

Miley has been a busy girl at the Foro Italico coming through three rounds to finish sixth in the 200m medley before swimming in the heats of the 4x200m freestyle relay.

Britain claimed a memorable bronze in the final but did so without

Miley who was replaced by world and Olympic medallist Jo Jackson after she recorded the slowest time of all the Brits during qualifying.

Miley, 19, didn’t receive a medal but has taken her rejection on the chin and begun fine tuning her preparations for the 400m medley the only way she knows how.

The Inverurie flyer follows a strict all work and no play regime under coach and father Patrick and is adamant teenage anxiety is a thing of the past.

“In swimming you have to go out there and look and be confident – you can’t afford to show weakness or look nervous and I won’t be doing that,” said Miley – who finished sixth in the Olympic 400m medley final last summer.

“If you look at all scared before the race then your opponents have already got one up on you and it costs you in the race.

“You don’t get to go to major championships that often and I need to make sure I take the opportunity when it comes along.

“Everything I have done so far has been great preparation for the 400 and I have remained completely focussed throughout.”
