Miley starts strong for Scotland in Glasgow
Garioch's Hannah Miley is one of the few Scottish Olympians to support the event, but she gained her reward with a third place behind two French internationalists in the 200m freestyle on the opening day of the Scottish Championships at Tollcross Leisure Centre in Glasgow.
The teenage all-rounder has qualified for Beijing in both the 400m and 200m individual medleys, but she also hopes to swim for Britain in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.
She did her best to impress the selectors with a sub two-minute time, touching in 1:59.32 and taking the national title and third placed in the Open race behind French Olympians Coralie Balmy (1:58.25) and Camille Muffat (1:58.30)
Miley decided not to enter the 400m IM as her times were a class apart from the opposition and, in her absence, Warrender's Sally Wood took her chance to become a Scottish National Champion.
The 18-year-old was a clear winner in 4:54.22, four seconds ahead of South Lanark's Corrie Scott.
