Scots combine to help Great Britain relay to Championship record in Rome
Scots Caitlin McClatchey and Hannah Miley helped the women's 4x200m freestyle relay quartet to a Championship record along with a place in Thursday night's final.
McClatchey bounced back from the disappointment of missing out the 200m freestyle final two days ago to swim an impressive first leg of 1.57.54 minutes and put the Brits in a strong position.
Jazmin Carlin kept the Brits in the hunt before Garioch swimmer Miley put in a personal best performance of 1.59.15m in the third leg.
Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington had no problems in the anchor leg and with Olympic bronze medallist Jo Jackson expected to be included for the final, the Brits are hot favourites for gold.
"It was just amazing to be part of the team - I am still quite surprised really," said Miley.
"And to perform so well - setting a new European and championship record on our first swim together is really promising.
"The team is strong and we're looking forward to tonight. I think there is a little bit more to come from us.
"I hope I've done enough to swim in the final but I'll have to see."
