McClatchey ready for World Championship challenge

Commonwealth gold medallist Caitlin McClatchey insists she is exactly where she wants to be despite failing to secure a place at July's World Championships at the first attempt.

The 23-year-old claimed double silver in the 100m and 200m freestyle at March's British Gas Championships but failed to meet the Rome qualifying criteria.

Only the winner of each event at Ponds Forge secured progression with one further place in each event up for grabs at the Scottish National Championships in Glasgow in June.

McClatchey must repeat or better her Sheffield performance in order to qualify for the World Champs but admitted she is feeling no pressure to do so.

"The freestyle is an incredibly tough event but I was never aiming to peak in Sheffield," said McClatchey, who finished sixth at 200m Olympic final in August.

"The Worlds are the big aim for me this year and I will be doing all I can to qualify in Scotland.

"But I have had a change of coach and the way I train and that has taken a little bit of getting used to.

"Things are a lot more fun and specific to the way and I should be working. It is all going to plan and I now want to swim the way I know I can."
