McClatchey out for relay revenge

Scotland's Caitlin McClatchey insists the 4x200m relay squad preparing for next week's World Championships in Rome have "unfinished business" after last year's Olympics.

McClatchey, along with double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington, was left out of the quartet during qualifying and the selectors were left red-faced as Jo Jackson, Mel Marshall, Hannah Miley and Fran Halsall failed to finish in the top eight.

The decision was controversial at the time with most experts predicting the event as one in which Britain had a genuine medal chance.

And while the squad didn't come out and criticise the decisions at the time, McClatchey admits it has left a sour taste in their mouths.

"The bad result we had in the relay at the Olympics has really left me feeling like we have some unfinished business," she said.

"In the 4 x 200 relay not many people gave us a chance but as a group of girls we knew we have a good chance so for it to have ended like that was really disappointing.

"The way it ended makes the World Championship relay even more important than the individuals and obviously all the girls will need to be swimming well when it comes around.

"But personally I want to make sure I am swimming as well as I can when it comes round so that we can get the result we should have got in Beijing."
