McClatchey eyeing more gold medals at 2010 Games in Delhi
Caitlin McClatchey insists her 2006 Commonwealth Games performance was not a flash in the pan – and has her eyes on repeat success in Delhi.
McClatchey stormed to 200m and 400m freestyle gold in Melbourne – with fellow Scots Gregor Tait and David Carry also bagging double gold.
The 23-year-old helped Great Britain to 4x200m freestyle bronze in one of the fastest relay races of all-time at July’s World Swimming Championships in Rome.
But McClatchey insists she only has her eyes on gold when the Commonwealth Games land in India.
“World swimming has moved on a lot since then and both Rebecca Adlington and Jo Jackson will be there so it will be tougher than last time,” said McClatchey.
“I really want to go there and do well for Scotland. I had a great time in Melbourne so I want to replicate that – my main focus is the Commonwealths.”
But, with less than three years to go, McClatchey admits the countdown is on for the London Olympic Games.
“I’m really focussing on the Commonwealth Games but 2012 is on the back on everyone’s minds – that’s the big one,” she added.
“Although we’re doing all these big meets like the worlds and Commonwealth Games, it’s all building towards the Olympic Games.”
