Marnie makes her mark

Warrender teenager Marnie Stewart was a 10km winner and was the star of a strong Scottish Gas Scottish Open Water Team competing in the Mediterranean in France.

Marnie won the final round of the French Open Water Cup over the 10km sea-course in a time of 2:11:09.  It is the second fastest ever recorded for a Scottish woman over the distance.

In the men's event, City of Glasgow’s Mark Deans, one of the youngest competitors in the 31-man field, took the silver medal in a time of 2:04:22. Chris Ritchie (Dunoon), Stephen Waterhouse (City of Leeds) and Jamie Forrest (Bath University) were 5th, 7th and 8th respectively.

In the 5km swim, held a day earlier, Marnie was second overall and a clear winner of the 16-17 years age category.  Jamie Forrest and Mark Deans were also winners within their age divisions.

The remainder of the squad; Helen McRoberts (Warrender Baths Club), Stephen Waterhouse and Chris Ritchie were silver medallists in their age categories.
