Kris and Kirsty target Olympic success
City of Edinburgh team mates Kris Gilchrist and Kirsty Balfour are a couple of Scots in confident mood ahead of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Gilchrist makes his Olympic debut in the 100m breaststroke when the swimming gets underway on Saturday - his main event will be the 200m distance.
"Going in the 100m will be a great warm-up," said the 24-year-old. "The 200m is wide open and if I can knock about a second off my time then I must be in with a shout."
Balfour has European Championship gold medal and a silver from the 2007 world championships in the 200m breaststroke, so she is regarded as one of GB's top medal hopes.
"I've got over the jet lag and feeling very happy about the Games," said Balfour as she looked forward to her second Olympics. "It's a good state to be in at this stage."
