Kellogg's backs Scottish Swimming

Hannah Miley, who will be one of Britain’s top medal hopes at the world championships in Rome this summer, helped Scottish Swimming launch a new £160,000 sponsorship deal with Kellogg’s at Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth Pool.

The £160,000 package bucks the trend of the harsh economic times and it will support swimmers from grass roots to elite level. It includes the Kellogg’s Scottish Swimming Awards, a Swim Active scheme involving 15,000 youngsters plus the support of ten leading GB swimmers.

Hannah, who broke the European record in two medley events at last month’s British Championships, is the one Scottish member of Team Kellogg’s, and the 19-year-old said: “The sponsorship has helped my father, Patrick, who is also my coach, to provide me with all I need to meet my training needs.

“Without such support, young people like me would not be able to follow our dreams and be able to compete at the highest level.”

Also celebrating the new package were Warrender’s Craig Hamilton, who is set to compete for Britain at this summer’s European Junior Championships in Prague, and 12-year-old Rachael O’Donnell, a multi-medallist at the Scottish Gas Age-Group Championships taking place this week at the Commonwealth Pool.

“Hannah is someone I really admire,” admitted Rachael, who is coached by Garrie Roberts at the Incas Club. “I want to follow in her footsteps and one my big goals is to compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”

Celebrating the deal, Ashley Howard, the Chief Executive of Scottish Swimming, commented: “Scottish Swimming is delighted to be working in partnership with Kellogg’s in a bid to reach our participation and performance goals. Swimming is one of Scotland’s most popular activities and has a great impact on the health of the nation.”
