Louise Henley called up to GB squad for World Championships
Edinburgh University's Louise Henley has been given a golden chance to impress after being named as a replacement for the injured Kate Haywood in the British squad for next week's World Swimming Championships.
Haywood had to pull out at the last minute with a hip problem and Henley will now swim in the 100m breaststroke in Rome next week as the squad finish their preparations at a holding camp in Sardinia.
Henley only just missed out on a place in the original squad after taking gold at the Scottish National Championships but will now link up with the likes of double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington.
And British Swimming Head Coach Dennis Pursley believes 24-year-old Henley fits perfectly in the 41-strong squad.
He said: "This team now has a really good mixture of veterans and young, up-and-coming swimmers and that was our goal.
"The attitude on the camp is really positive and I just feel like the focus is where it needs to be which will provide the right end to an impressive preparation for the team.
"I'm looking forward to re-establishing that focus and bringing the team together before we go into Rome."
