Hannah's top ten

Garioch's Hannah Miley won a cracking ten titles and set five Scottish records in a super show at the Scottish National short-course Championships at Glasgow’s Tollcross Leisure Centre.

In yesterday’s final session, the 19-year-old Olympian collected the 400m individual medley, the 200m freestyle, the 200m breaststroke and the 100m backstroke.

With the World Championships taking place in Rome this summer it was a perfect start to Miley's New Year.

In the closest race of the day, Stirling’s Andrew Hunter just squeezed out fellow-Olympian Robbie Renwick (City of Glasgow) in the final of the 200m freestyle. The older man touched in 1:46.07, with Renwick on 1:46.09 and another Glasgow youngster, Scott Houston, in third place in 1:49.21.

Two Warrender swimmers - Lewis Smith and Billy Purnell – both added to their gold medal haul. Smith raised his tally to five titles by taking the 400m individual medley (4:21.20) and the 200m breaststroke (2:13.10) , while Purnell claimed victory No.3 with a time of 55.31 in the 100m backstroke.

But the weekend was dominated by Miley.  She opened the final day by winning her the 400m medley, an event in which she was a silver medallist at the world short-course championships in Manchester last April, in 4:36.20 and by almost 12 seconds from second-placed Sally Wood (Warrender).

Minutes later, she was back to add the 200m freestyle in 1:59.13 and then followed up with back-to-back victories in the backstroke and the 200m breaststroke (2:26.90). Her time of 1:00.86 in the backstroke was her final record.

Louise Pate, a member of the new Edinburgh University set-up run by coach Chris Jones, won the 50m butterfly in 27.82, a race that earned the championship’s fifth Scottish junior record for City of Newcastle’s Laura Dawson.
