Gold again for Anderson

Broxburn swimmer James Anderson recovered from his Beijing hangover in style as he took BT Paralympic World Cup gold in Manchester.

The 46-year-old failed to add to his six career Paralympic golds in China last year, leaving the Far East clutching two silvers and two bronze medals to show for his efforts.

But Anderson returned to form at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, bagging his third career World Cup gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 68.11 seconds.

The victory was doubly sweet for Anderson, a veteran of four Paralympic Games, as he edged out Greek star Georgios Kapelakis, who beat him twice in Beijing.

"It's another gold medal for Team GB and that is fantastic," said Anderson. "It was an alright time and it's better than I have been doing so that is great.

"My preparation was pretty good coming into this. I was preparing more for the European trials last week but after qualifying for those, I wanted to do well here.

"The Europeans are in Iceland at the end of the year so I am really looking forward to doing well again there."

Meanwhile, Loanhead star Sean Fraser claimed the final place on the podium courtesy of a sprint finish in the 400m freestyle.

The 19-year-old clocked a new personal best time of four minutes 39.12 seconds after hunting down China's Jiachao Wang in the final 50 metres.
