Glasgow new boys relish the challenge
Top Scottish coach Eileen Adams is excited about the future prospects of her new City of Glasgow Performance Squad.

Olympian Robbie Renwick, Ranald Falconer, Daniel Scott, Scott Houston, Ben Higson and Greig Wilkinson have all moved to the new set-up in Glasgow and will be mixing university studies with intensive training.

"It is great to have a 50m pool for training," said Eileen, who has moved from Aberdeen to take up the post based at the Tollcross Centre. "For all the swimmers, the future is very bright.

"They might have to take one step back to take two steps forward as they adapt to the lifestyle and training changes. But, already, they are all focussed on the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympics.

"Some people say that both are a long way off, but the countdown starts from now. The time will soon pass."

Renwick, 20, was the youngest of the ten Scots at this year's Olympics, and he did supremely well to make the final of the 200m freestyle.

"To make an Olympic at 20 was encouraging," added Eileen. "But now we have to knock at least five seconds from his time to have a chance of making the podium in London."
