Sean Fraser determined to build on 2009 success in time for 2012 Games
Edinburgh swimmer Sean Fraser insists he needs to keep on improving if he is to play a starring role at the 2012 Paralympics.
Fraser, who won 400m freestyle bronze in Beijing, produced his best international display to date last month as he scooped four medals at the European Disability Championships in Iceland.
The 19-year-old was part of the gold-medal winning 100m freestyle team while he also claimed individual bronze in the 50m and 400m freestyle as well as the 100m backstroke.
But with GB’s strength in depth in the Paralympic pool, Fraser is adamant he will have to keep improving his times if he is to make the British squad.
“It went really well in Iceland but being part of this team means you have to be in the top five of these competitions and challenging for medals,” said Fraser.
“It was a nice medal haul to come home with and to keep my place in the team I’ve got to keep doing things like that.
“The British team has already improved since Beijing and it’s going to get better and better in the run-up to London.
“Backstroke is my main event but by London I know that it will be a couple of seconds faster at the very least so I’m going to have to get quicker.
“We set the bar in China with some great results but there’s no doubt that we want to better that and we will have to better that.”
