"Talent’s not enough. You’ve got to have all the other attributes: Sacrifice, eat properly, sleep properly, train properly, drink the right things, rest at the right times. As long as you give it everything you've got."

Edinburgh trio set for Canada
City of Edinburgh's Iain Macmillan, Robyn Matthews and Michael Jamieson fly off this weekend to swim for Britain at the three Nations Meet in Canada. France is the third team in the line-up.

"It promises to be a really good event and perfect for our three young swimmers," said Edinburgh's Chris Jones, who is also travelling to Montreal as one of the coaches.

"They may have missed out on the Olympics, but this is another chance to compete in a high profile event."

Scotland's ten Olympians - Kirsty Balfour, Hannah Miley, Caitlin McClatchey, David Carry, Gregor Tait, Kris Gilchrist, Robbie Renwick, Todd Cooper, Euan Dale and Andrew Hunter - have also left for the GB holding camp in Osaka in Japan.

The team will then fly to Beijing on August 4 in time for the opening ceremony on August 8 and the start of the swimming programme the following day.
