Edinburgh swimmers' hectic swan song

After 12 very successful years, City of Edinburgh Swimming is set to close down after the Olympic Games - but it is still going to be a busy summer for the swimmers.

In addition to Kirsty Balfour, Gregor Tait and Kris Gilchrist taking part in the Olympics in Beijing, Robyn Matthews will be taking part in the World Youth Championships in Mexico in July.

In early August, Michael Jamieson and Iain MacMillan will be competing for Britain in a Three Nations Meet in Canada.

By the end of August, there will be a lot of decisions to be made by the Edinburgh swimmers, and head coach, Fred Vergnoux.

Funding has been removed from the programme, and the Royal Commonwealth Poolis set to be closed for refurbishment. The double whammy means that all involved will be seeking pastures new.

It is also an important summer for Scottish Swimming. Stirling has been submitted as one of the candidates for a set of new British International Training Centres. The selections are due to made in July.
