Carry keen to make sacrifices

Aberdeen’s David Carry has already underlined his target for the new swimming season – more Commonwealth Games glory.

The 28-year old won double gold for Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealths in Melbourne in the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley before injuries and a drop in form saw the Scot drift out of the limelight.

But a return to form this season saw the Scot reach the 4x200m final with his British teammates at the World Championships in Rome in August.

And with the European Championships in Hungary and the Commonwealth Games in Dehli taking precedence next season, the Stockport Metro swimmer insists the chance to win more international acclaim is what motivates him to push through the pain barrier in early season training.

“I started training again last week and it’s been painful and a shock to the system getting back into the routine,” said Carry.

“But the chance to compete against the best in the world is what drives me as a swimmer and you realise it’s worth all those hours of training.

“Obviously the last Commonwealths in Australia was a fantastic event for me and my main focus this season is going to be preparing for the next one.”
