Benson in last chance saloon in Finland

Livingston swimmer Craig Benson failed to make the podium at the European Youth Olympic Festival but vowed not to leave Finland empty handed.

The 15-year-old James Young High School pupil finished seventh in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.06.25 minutes at the Tampere Swimming Centre on Thursday.

Benson wraps up his Finnish campaign in the 4x100m medley relay and insists the Team GB squad have want it takes to get onto the podium.

"I didn't expect to make the final so that was good but I've got one more chance now," said Benson.

"There is a good team spirit in the squad so the relays have been really fun to do and hopefully we've got a chance of medalling.

"I've really enjoyed this week, I'm a year younger than most here so I know what I have got to do it improve and reach this level."
