Scottish swimmers continue prep for China
Fred Vergnoux, the City of Edinburgh head coach who is in charge of the men's British Olympic team, reports that everything is going well in the build-up to Beijing for Scotland's ten British team swimmers.
"We are just back from a training camp in Sardinia, and it was a great team building exercise, as well as a good week of hard work," said the Frenchman.
"Now we have a block of training in Edinburgh before the whole Olympic team competes at a meet in Rome at the start of June."
Another big date looming for the Scottish ten - Kirsty Balfour, Kris Gilchrist, Gregor Tait, David Carry, Euan Dale, Todd Cooper, Robbie Renwick, Caitlin McClatchey, Hannah Miley and Andrew Hunter - is the ASA Championships in Liverpool at the start of July.
Vergnoux is confident that his City of Edinburgh trio - Balfour, Gilchrist and Tait - will perform with pride in China. "All three are training really well," he said. "There is a really good atmosphere around at the Commonwealth Pool at the moment."
Balfour, a world long-course championship silver medallist in 200m breaststroke, and Gilchrsit, a world short-course champion in the same event, are two of Britain's top podium prospects.
