Alistair just misses out

Dunedin's Alistair Brown was disappointed to miss out on medals as he suffered some ill luck at the European Junior Open Water Championships in Sete in France.

The 19-year-old was fourth in the 3 x 3K relay - and was an unlucky 13th in the individual 10K race after he slammed into a boat.

Bit the performances from the novice was good enough to earn selection for another Open Water event in Seville next month.

"I was disappointed not to get a medal, and swimming into the boats was rough," said the Linlithgow teenager. "But I have been told that the 10K is my strength and I'm really going to concentrate on open water swimming. I'm really enjoying it."

A 15000m freestyle specialist, Alistair made his debut in open water in Italy last month - and he is already setting his sights on making the GB team for the London 20012 Olympics. Early signs are very promising.
