Miley taking nothing for granted in Rome

Inverurie's Hannah Miley has vowed to take nothing for granted when she makes her World Swimming Championship debut in Rome.

The 19-year-old Garioch swimmer suffered heartache two years ago when she failed to make Great Britain's World Championship squad bound for Melbourne.

However Miley has been resurgent ever since and after being handed a place on the plane to the Olympics in Beijing last summer stormed to sixth in the 400m medley.

Miley has made the necessary post-Beijing changes and with the Scottish teenager set to line up in the 200m and 400m medley as well as the 200m breaststroke in the Italian capital,l expectations are high.

"It is no mean feat coming sixth in the world but as a swimmer you have to critique it and find out what I can do better," said Miley, who holds both the 200m and 400m European medley records.

"Missing out two years ago gave me a huge kick up the backside to make sure it didn't happen again.

"I don't know where I would be today without it, I had to train even harder and make sure it didn't happen again.

"I knew there are things I had to improve on and I would like to think I have addressed that and hopefully it has worked out just in time for Rome."
