Cameron likely to meet top seed in Thurso
With the entry list now completed for the 3rd O'Neill Highland Open in Thurso that starts tomorrow (Wednesday), Scotland's wild card entry is almost certain to face a top seed in his opening elimination round.
30 year-old Mark Cameron earned his wild card after winning the Scottish Surfing Championships in late March.
As one of three wild cards into the 6-star World Qualifying Series event, Fraserburgh based Cameron is likely to face one of the top twenty surfers in the 144 strong starting line-up.
However if drawn to compete against a top seed in the four-strong, 20 minute long elimination heats, Cameron is at least likely to be awarded a bye into the second round of the competition.
As the leader of the current WQS rankings, Patrick Gudauskas from Florida (USA) may well be the top seed in the event that will also feature last year's winner Nathan Hedge (Australia).
2000 World Champion, Sunny Garcia (Hawaii) is ranked 25th in the current WQS rankings and will also compete in the chilly waters off Caithness.
