Scots beat Czech Republic to finish 5th at European Junior Championships
Scotland’s team of Chris Ferguson, Kevin Moran and Mhairi Charlton finished on a high by beating the Czech Republic 2-1 to finish fifth at the European Junior Championships in Germany.
It is Scotland’s best result since 1995 in the under-19 event and is a great reward for the hard work put in by the Australian pair of National coach Roger Flynn and the Director of High Performance, Paul Frank.
Scotland went in to the championship as the No.10 seeds – and it was Chris and Kevin who won against the Czech boys. Chris beat Roman Svec 11-7 11-7 7-11 11-4 and Kevin defeated Daniel Mekbib 11-8 4-11 11-5 11-6. Mhairi lost 6-11 8-11 in the dead rubber to Anna Kilmondova.
In the final, hosts Germany scored a shock win 2-1 win over England. Alex Ingham and Chris Fuller both lost in four games leaving Sarah-Jane Perry to pick up a consolation point for the favourites.
