White drops out of world top ten
Scotland's John White slipped to No.15 in the latest world rankings, but he was back on top form to win the Canon Kirk Homes Irish Open in Dublin. IT was the 13th victory of his 13 year professional career.
White, a former world No.1 who is now based in Pennsylvania, beat Malaysian Mohd Azlan Iskandar 11-9 8-11 11-4 5-11 11-8 in a thrilling final that stretched to well over an hour.
In the decider, Iskandar moved ahead 6-3 before a brilliant couple of winning shots from White put him back in the match. The Australian-born Scot then levelled the match at 8-8 and went on to clinch the title by taking the next three points.
"I don't know what happened at eight all in the fifth but, whatever it was, it was perfect for me," said the delighted 34-year-old after beating an opponent who is ten years younger and ranked two places higher at No.13 in the world.
