Scottish women put Welsh rivals to the sword in test-series
It was honours even in the men’s event and advantage Scotland for the women after the opening day of the Test Series against Wales at Heriot-Watt University.
In the first session, Scottish No.1 Alan Clyne beat Lewys Hurst 3-0 and Stuart Crawford defeated Peter Creed 3-1, but Jamie Macaulay and Lyall Paterson both went down in five and four games respectively. But Scotland took the session on a games countback.
Scotland’s men rang the changes for the second session, and none of the home players managed to win a match. Macaulay came closest, going down in five games to Creed. But Paterson and replacements Graham Melvin and Chris Ferguson all lost. So it was one-all after the two, opening day sessions.
In the women’s event, Alex Clark and Lisa Aitken both won in style in session No.1, while Kirsty Craig, on her international comeback, lost out to the powerful hitter, Gemma Creed.
The afternoon turned out to be a comfortable 3-0 whitewash for the home team, with Kirsty, Lisa and Alex all winning in style.
The Test Series is part of this season’s Performance Programme organised by Director Paul Frank.
