Scots sending doubles teams to 2010 Games in Delhi
Doubles squash is not the best known sporting discipline, but Scotland is taking it very seriously and is already targeting medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The world doubles championships in Chennai in India in December are going to be a huge test, and Scottish coach Roger Flynn is hoping to be able to send a top team of John White and Harry Leitch, plus Alan Clyne and Jamie Macaulay.
There will also be women’s and mixed events.
“We nearly won a medal in the men’s doubles at the last Commonwealth Games and doubles are a big priority,” said Flynn. “We’ve not heard yet whether John is going to be available for the world championships, but we’re certainly hoping so.”
The first round of trials have already taken place in Edinburgh – and the final selection will take place after another weekend of trials on a full-sized doubles court in Nottingham in November. A training camp will also be held in Nottingham for the Indian-bound squad.
