

Scottish women finish top of their group at European Team Championships
Frania Gillen-Buchert and Lisa Aitken claimed the points in a 2-1 win over Austria that saw Scotland finish top of Group F at the European Team Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Currently ranked No.12, the Scots are now into the 5-12 place play-offs.
Aitken, from Montrose, set the Scots on the road to victory with an easy 11-2 11-4 11-2 victory over Sabina Rehman, while Edinburgh-based Gillen-Buchert, the Scottish Champion, defeated Birgit Coufal 12-10 11-4 11-5. In the dead rubber, Alex Clark lost 9-11 9-11 6-11 10-12.
In the men’s event, Scotland - Alan Clyne, Lyall Paterson, Stewart Crawford and Harry Leitch - finished third in Group B after beating Switzerland 3-1 in the final match. As with the women, the men are now in the 5-12 play-offs.
