Scots score morale boosting victory over Wales in test series
Scotland’s preparations for this season’s European Championships in Malmo, Sweden, gained a boost with victory over Wales in the Test Series at Heriot-Watt University.
Tied after the opening day, Scotland’s men gained the upper hand on day two. In the morning, Stuart Crawford and Chris Small both won, while Jamie Macaulay and Chris Ferguson suffered defeats.
But Alan Clyne stepped in for the final session and easily beat Nic Birt. Small also won and Crawford secured Scotland’s victory when he inflicted a first defeat of the series on Matt Crowley. In the other tie, Lyall Paterson lost in a tough five games to Peter Creed.
In the women’s event, veteran Senga Macfie scored great wins over both Beth Winstanley and Jenny Wright, while youngster Lisa Aitken beat Gemma Clark 3-1 in the morning and followed up with a straight games triumph over Winstanley.
Alex Clark lost her morning match to Jenny Wright, while Wales gained a second point courtesy of Gemma Davies edging home 3-1 against Claire Kidd.
