Peter Nicol returns to Scotland to coach young squash players
Former world number one Peter Nicol has returned to his birthplace to coach the next generation of squash players.
Inverurie-born Nicol, 36, controversially switched allegiances to England in 2001 after slamming the lack of support he received from national funding body Scottish Squash.
After spending the best part of 20 years in London, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist – who retired from the game three years ago – has now returned north of the border, and plans to coach local youngsters at the squash club which bears his name in Westhill.
“Even when I was playing down in England I was here once a month, I never abandoned the area, it is where I come from,” said Nicol.
“I am very passionate about it and I love being back here and it will always be one of my goals to encourage youths to play.
“If we were to find someone who was actually good enough to go on and play at a higher level and professionally that would be brilliant.”
