Mhairi and Morgan aim for Euro double

Mhairi Charlton and Morgan Maguire, who recently helped Scotland finish in the top five at the European under-19 Championships in Germany, will be chasing another impressive result at this week’s European under-15 and under-17 Team Championships in Girona, Spain.

The two girls are joined in the under-17 team by Dougie Kempsell, Greg Lobban and Alistair McCorquodale.

Greg’s youngster sister, Kirsty, is a member of the five-strong under-15 team that also includes Rosie Allan, who has had an outstanding season.

“The under-19 team finished fifth at the Europeans, and that was the best result in over 20 years,” said Scottish Squash Chief Operating Officer, Kim Atkinson. “Encouragingly, it was a very young team and three will still be eligible for the same age-group next year.

“The senior teams also improved their rankings and performed really well at the European Championships in Sweden last week (the men finished sixth and the women were ninth). Hopefully, the youngsters will produce some more good results over the next few days.”

The coaches in Spain will be Mark Beaumont and Claire Kidd.
