Mhairi Charlton or Hannah Anthony will become the first home winner since 1998 at the Scottish Junior Open. The Aberdeen clubmates will meet in the final of the under-17 championship at Heriot-Watt University at Riccarton.
In the semi-finals, Mhairi, the No. 1 seed, beat South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller 11-9 6-11 11-2 11-8, while Hannah eased past fellow-Scot Lindsay Ackers by 11-6 11-4 11-5.
Canada’s Nicholas Sachvie, who knocked out Scotland’s top seeded Chris Ferguson in the quarter-finals, reached the under-19 final and will meet American Todd Harrity for the coveted title, while England’s Sarah-Jane Perry faces Japan’s Misaki Kobayashi in the girls’ event.
Waverley’s Ferguson will meet Ian Jubb (Tyne) in the 7th/8th place play-off, while Lisa Aitken (Montrose), who was the last Scottish winner when she took the under-11 title ten years ago, will face Claire Gray (Perth) for 7th/8th place and the honour of top Scot in the under-19 girls’ championship.
