Scottish squash star John White retires from professional circuit
Scot John White, a former world No.1, has announced his retirement from the Professional Squash Association circuit.
The US-based 35-year-old made the announcement following his 11-2 11-3 11-9 defeat from England’s James Willstrop in the second round of the World Open in Manchester.
White coaches at a major University in America, and the father of four has decided it is time to call it a day on the tournament circuit.
But it is a sad moment for Scottish squash. Australian-born White switched his allegiance to Scotland in 1998 – his father comes from Edinburgh – and he was a great servant to the country.
Apart from reaching No.1 in the world, he also made it to the final of the 2002 British Open – losing to Peter Nicol, the man who changed nationality from Scotland to England in 2001.
?But there is good news – White has already agreed to play for Scotland at next year’s European Championships.
