Giant-killer Clyne slips at final hurdle

Scotland’s Alan Clyne, a qualifier and currently ranked No.167 in the world, put up a great fight before losing out to No.2 seed, Arturo Salazar, in the final of the Talisman Energy Bankers Hall Tournament in Calgary.

The Inverness 21-year-old had included top seed Jan Koukal among a string of shock results on his way to the final, but he couldn’t quite complete the job and lost 2-11 11-13 11-13 to the Mexican in an entertaining 48-minute final.

Clyne won his first professional event in Charleston in the US last September and is aiming to climb into the top 100 in the world by the end of his first full season on the PSA Tour.

This weekend, the Scottish Champion will be the leading home player at the Artemis Open at Edinburgh Sports Club.
