Stuart Crawford wins first professional title in Italy
Scotland’s Stuart Crawford claimed his first Professional Squash Association title in style when he beat South African Gary Wheadon in the final of the Palasprint Open in Parma, Italy.
The former Scottish Champion was seeded no.4 but trounced the South African No.2 seed 11-5 11-7 11-7. His toughest match had been against American Alexander George in the first round when he went through 11-3 in the fifth and deciding set.
Crawford has played infrequently on the PSA circuit this year and is currently ranked No.223 in the world. He follows in the footsteps of Scottish Champion, Alan Clyne, who won his first world circuit tournament in Virginia in September.
Crawford and Clyne will both be taking part in this weekend’s final trials in Nottingham to select the Scottish team for the world doubles championships in India next month.
Crawford's next tournament will be a British circuit tournament in Manchester at the end of this moth.
