Clyne's perfect debut
Scotland's Alan Clyne has made a brilliant start to his professional career by winning the Charleston Challenge in Virginia.

The 22-year-old Edinburgh University graduate was only seeded No.6 but he defeated a string of opponents and eventually claimed the title with a victory over England's Jon Harford in the final.

The win is the first by a Scot on the Professional Squash Association circuit since John White won the Baltimore Open in December 2006.

The Inverness man is now certain to enjoy a significant rise from his current world ranking of No.144.

The only disappointment is that the chance of back-to-back victories in the US has been ruled out by Hurricane Ike.

Clyne was due to play in this week's BCD and HMH Houston Open. But the event  has been postponed due to the severe weather problems - the plan is to reschedule for later in the season.

Clyne, who recently helped Britain win the silver medal at the World University Championships in Cairo, will now return home and will be playing in the world champion doubles trails at Heriot-Watt University at the end of the month.
