Alan Clyne in hot form at first weekend of world trials
Alan Clyne confirmed his position as Scotland’s No.1 with a convincing win in the first of the three rounds of world championship trials at Heriot-Watt University.
But the event threw up a few shocks – not least the fact that Scotland’s Director of High Performance, Paul Frank, made it to the final after he beat Lyall Paterson 8-11 11-9 11-9 11-6 in the semi-finals.
In the final, Clyne ended the impressive run with an 11-4 11-2 11-2 victory.
With four places up for grabs for the world championships in Odense in Denmark next month, Chris Small made his claim by beating Paterson 11-5 11-7 11-7 in the third place play-off.
Graham Melvin was fifth after scoring an 11-4 13-11 11-9 triumph over internationalist Jamie MacAulay in his final play-off match.
There are another two rounds of trails this week before Scottish coach Roger Flynn finalises his selections.
