Alan Clyne makes spectacular start to professional career
Scottish Champion Alan Clyne has made a terrific start to his professional career by reaching the semi-finals of the Charleston Challenge in Virginia.
The 22-year-old from Inverness beat South African qualifier Jacques Swanepoel 3-0 in the first round and then caused a big upset with a victory over American No 3 seed, Gilly Lane, in the quarter-finals.
Clyne, who recently helped Britain win the silver medal at the World University Championships in Cairo, was the No.6 seed but managed to beat Lane 3-1 in an hour-long match. He now meets the Canadian No.2 seed, Robin Clarke, for a place in the final.
Clyne is currently ranked No.144 in the world - but has set his sights on breaking into the top 100 by the end of his first season on the Professional Tour.
