Clyne makes his mark in America

Scotland’s fastest rising squash star - Alan Clyne – has again shown fine form on the professional circuit in the US.

A first-time winner in the States last year, the Inverness 21-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the St Louis Invitational and managed to take a game from the top seed and eventual winner, Ali Anwar Reda.

The Scottish Champion, who was unseeded, beat Australia’s No.5 seed, Zac Alexander, in the first round before going out 8-11 11-7 10-12 7-11 to Egypt’s Reda.

At the Rocafort Open in Spain, former Scottish Champion Stuart Crawford also made it into the last eight.

The No. 5 seed opened with an 11-8 11-0 8-11 11-8 win over Spain’s Carlos Ribadas before bowing out 13-11 7-11 7-11 7-11 to the French No. 2 seed, Joan Lezaud.
