Alan Clyne marginally loses out in five-game marathon final at Wimbledon Open
Scotland’s Alan Clyne reached the final of the Wimbledon Open, only losing out in a tough five game marathon to England’s Robbie Temple. In the 63-miniute match, the Englishman finally came through 8-11 11-6 11-9 6-11 11-6.
Clyne was unseeded, but the player who has risen to a career high of No.84 in the world beat all three of his round–robin opponents - Ben Ford, Aaaron Francomb and Nafzahizan Adnan – by comfortable 3-0 margins.
Having had only half an hour to rest between his last group match and the final, Clyne did well to push the more experienced Temple the full distance. The score was 5-all in the deciding game before the Inverness player eventually ran out of steam.
For left-hander Temple, it was a third win this season on the British Squash Players’ Association circuit.
