Clyne leads way for Scots

Alan Clyne, who is on the brink of a full-time professional career, will be leading Scotland's campaign at the European Team Championships in Amsterdam next week.

The event will be the biggest ever European Team Championships - featuring a record 47 teams. Scotland has won the title once - on a memorable week in Aix-en-Provence in France in 1992 when a teenage Peter Nicol was the star of a show. The Scots scored an historic first ever win over England in the semi-finals and then defeated Finland in the final.

Scotland has never won the women's title, but has been among the medals on a number of occasions.

This year, Scotland's men are seeded eight and the women are ranked 15.
The men face a tough pool featuring defending champions England - and only one team from the pool can make the semi-finals.

The women are grouped with Wales and Finland, needing to defeat both teams to progress into 5-12 place play-offs.

Unfortunately, world No.15 John White - who won the Irish Open last week - is unavailable.

Scottish teams: Men:
Alan Clyne
Stuart Crawford
Chris Small
Jamie Macaulay
Alistair Gorrie
Lyall Paterson

Women:
Frania Gillen-Buchert
Claire Kidd
Lisa Aitken
Caron Lawrie
