Veteran Chris Small backs Clyne to shine at Worlds
Scotland’s team of Alan Clyne, Stuart Crawford, Chris Small and teenager Lyall Paterson will open the World Team Championships against India in Pool H in Odense in Denmark.
Clyne, who has reached a career high of No.83 in the world, will lead the side in a round-robin section that also includes Italy and Venezuela.
Clyne and Crawford were also in the Scottish side that finished 18th at the last World Championships in Chennai in India two years ago, while the best ever finish was fourth in Melbourne in 2001.
Small makes his world debut at the age of 31, and has revived his playing career following a couple of years coaching in Italy.
“I reckoned I should have made the 2001 team in Melbourne, but better late than never,” said the man from Dalgety Bay. “I’ve managed to do a lot more training since I moved to Italy and I think we have a good chance of finishing higher this year.
“Alan is doing exceptionally well on the world circuit and our coach, Roger Flynn, has put together a great coaching set-up and we are all very strong, so facing a lot of games in a few days should be no problem.”
